Hi, I’m Matheson (Matty if you want to get real comfortable), and I’m so glad you’ve found your way here! I created Beyond the Garden Gates as a space to share my love of gardening, photography, and the simple joys of slow living, while also using it as a space to process the world around me and keep me focused on our family goal of moving abroad.
If you’re wondering what you can expect from me and this blog, just know it’s a little bit of everything. I plan on posting things like:
- Seasonal gardening tips & updates
- Nature and travel-inspired photography
- Thoughts on slow living and simplicity
- Book reviews
- Stories about preparing to move abroad
I’m the type of person who can easily let her thoughts run her life. I have OCD that manifests as intrusive thoughts and a mind that is always ruminating on something. With the state of the world being what it is, you can imagine I’ve been struggling with flare-ups. So, I thought maybe I could create a space where I can process what I’m feeling, process what’s going on in the world and in my own life, and help me stay focused on the things I love and the goals I’m working towards. Thanks for joining me in my experiment.
I chose Beyond the Garden Gates as the name for this space because, while my life is mostly gardening, I also have other interests I want to be able to explore and share. I’m an avid reader, and I share the books I love with my grandma so why not share them with you, too? I love to take photos of the nature around me. I live in Savannah, Georgia and the nature is beautiful down here. I have been embracing the slow living mindset (slowly, but surely) since being here, and I would love to share that with you as well. And, finally, I want to keep myself on track and accountable for the move my partner and I want to make abroad. Thus, the blog was born.
This is just the beginning, and I’d love for you to join me on this journey. If you’re passionate about gardening, simple living, or dreaming of life beyond your own garden gates, you’ll feel right at home here. Be sure to subscribe so you don’t miss my next post!
What are the simple joys in your life right now? Iād love to hear from you in the comments.
Some simple joys for me right now are hanging out with my friends, whether it be in person or on discord playing video games, sitting down to watch a movie with my family, slowly getting back into reading by re-reading the twilight saga, and helping bottle feed some newborn puppies. š
Those are such great things to do! I also like the discord hangs, makes it easier when you’re all spread out like too many of us are these days. Are you going to see twilight when it’s in theaters this fall? I’m coming back home to go see it with my friend’s mom lol š
